Hey, how in the world are you?? 

​

My name is Nik Day, and I'm super excited you're on my website.

 

A little about me - I started playing piano when I was 5 years old. Not to give away my age, but I have more than 30 years of piano playing under my belt, and nothing brings me more joy.

​

Playing the piano is very therapeutic for me. Sometimes I sit down at the piano and before I realize it 2 hours have passed, and it seems like I've solved all the problems in the world. 

​

And you know the crazy part??

 

I don't read music...

​

I mean, I read enough to plunk out a simple hymn or two, but it's not easy for me. 

​

Starting out, I took piano lessons but I hated trying to learn how to read music. I wasn't inspired, I was bored, and it showed in my playing. My teacher didn't like me because I didn't practice. So I quit.

 

But then I started creating my own piano pieces... Ands that's when I learned I'm a Piano Music Creator.

​

I wasn't someone that was just going to regurgitate something written on a piece of paper. I wanted to create, to make my own music that I could share with the world.

​

And that's when my piano playing took off.

​

I couldn't stop playing. I would spend hours plunking away on our old upright piano in the living room. 

 

Of course, at first my piano creations didn't start out amazing. They were all over the place and I was left guessing what to do next. There was no structure and I had no idea what I was doing. It was a little frustrating.

 

But I didn't quit.

 

After years of working on my craft and creating hundreds of piano pieces, when I was 16 I put together my first book of piano solos and local piano teachers used the book to teach their students. It was pretty cool for a homeschooled kid from Idaho Falls.

And now, I'm a full-time musician living the dream! I create live productions, create music for videos, and write Christian music with lyrics, but I've always loved composing instrumental music on the piano best.

​

And what I realized is that a lot of people think that to be really good at the piano you have to spend years studying and you have to have a special gift...

​

AND you have to learn how to read music and play other people's music.

​
